Youth of the Year: Trisha MacLean
The National Youth of the Year embodies Boys & Girls Club of America's three priority outcome areas of leadership: character and service, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles. Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor bestowed upon Club members. This year, Club staff members voted Trisha MacLean our Youth of the Year!

Trisha has been a member of the Club for six years, participating in our Club Kids program, our Diplomas to Degrees program, and most recently serving as a staff member in our Sunshine Room and Afterschool program. Outside the Club, Trisha is the Captain of her Varsity Hockey team and an active volunteer in her community. Trisha possesses all of the traits of a Youth of the Year: hard working, a leader, and a positive role model. Trisha is a great representation of how "Great Futures Start Here."

Annual Meeting
Friends and supporters gathered at the Boston Marriott/Burlington for the 79th Annual Meeting and Dinner of the Arlington Boys & Girls Club. The event, sponsored by Cambridge Savings Bank, was a celebration to recognize award winners and scholarship recipients and to say thank you to the staff, volunteers and supporters.

Lori Pescatore was welcomed as a new member of the Board of Directors. We also added twelve new members to the Corporation.

The George P. Faulkner Annual Citizens Award for Outstanding Service to Youth was presented to A. A. Hopeman. A. A. Hopeman has donated hundreds of hours as a volunteer coach for the Arlington Boys & Girls Club and Arlington High School swim teams. He began to help out when his children joined the ABGC swim team. Although his children are no longer on the team, he continues to assist with practices two evenings a week from October through February. A. A. works with swimmers of all abilities and his patient, caring, and supportive style keeps them enthused and dedicated members of the team.

Nicole Haroutunian was presented with the 2017 Youth Service Award. Nicole is a senior at Arlington HS. Nicole is a member of the National Honor Society, the field hockey, track, and lacrosse teams, and takes part in community service. In addition she works several part time jobs and is a Sunday School teacher for second graders. Nicole is passionate and caring. A genuine leader and role model.

Paul J. Leone Memorial Basketball Tournament
On June 11th the Club hosted the Paul J. Leone Memorial Basketball Tournament. Many of Paul's family and friends were on hand to honor Paul and his love for family, friends, the Club and Basketball! Paul was a member of the club for many years before he passed away suddenly. He loved the game of basketball and really enjoyed being at the Club playing basketball with his closest friends. Proceeds from this very special event were donated to the Club in Paul's memory.

Nine teams consisting of over 35 players took part in this double elimination tournament. There were great games played. It was a big success. The Club was happy to be part of such a special day!

We would like to thank the Leone family and friends for making generous donations to the Club in Paul's memory!

Liberty Mutual and Matignon Service Days
Liberty Mutual Volunteers
We would like to thank Liberty Mutual volunteers for their 6th year of service to the Arlington Boys & Girls Club! Serve with Liberty sends volunteers to area organizations to give back each year. They came to the Club on May 12th and helped us with cleaning around our boating dock, preparing program spaces, and raking our preschool playground. They also helped clean out the after school vans
Matignon High School Volunteers
Thank you to Matignon High School! They sent volunteers to the Club to do community service on May 31st. They helped clean up the teen room, the gym, and shred a pile of old paperwork.

We are grateful for all the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers that helped us get ready for our summer programs. The building and the grounds look amazing!
